Metadata are crucial in making research data FAIR. But they must be provided by the researchers. During the project duration, BioDATEN developed an annotation tool that uses XML files as input and provides web-based HTML forms as output that can be populated by the researchers. As the input are XML files, the foundation for input validation is already integrated. This in combination with integrated look-up services for terms help to improve the overall metadata quality. At the same time, the tool is sensitive to previous inputs and displays metadata fields only if they make sense in the context provided. The slides summarize the functions of the tool and provide links to further resources. Additionally, the slides also address metadata harvesting to implement a cross-repository and cross-omics search functionality. |
